On Montauk: A Literary Celebration – Authors Reading

Hosted by: Céline Keating

with readings by

Maryann Calendrille,  Jo Carney,  Stacey Donovan,
Dave Krusa,  Nanci LaGarenne,  Lisa Michne,
Michael Schenkler, and Marge Winski

Why an anthology of fiction, poetry, and essay on Montauk?

One of the world’s great fishing ports; site of the first cattle ranch in the US; refuge for Teddy Roosevelt’s Roughriders back from San Juan Hill; rum-runner headquarters during Prohibition; very nearly the Miami Beach of the north; site of the premier US lighthouse; home to unique, endangered species and second home to generations of New York firefighters, police, teachers, artists, and writers; a major defense installation during World War II and the Cold War—Montauk packs more history, culture, nature, and mystery into its few square miles than perhaps any other locale in the US.

Now, more than fifty writers and photographers celebrate this unique place, just at the moment when it is chalenged on the one hand by an invasion of entrepreneurs, and on the other, by rising seawaters that threaten its homes and beaches. (–Publisher)

(Books will be available for purchase at the reading – and at your local bookstores!)

Communication Skills: Coping with Dementia Saturday, June 18, 2016 & June 25, 2016

Saturday, June 18, 2016 &  June 25, 2016
1:00 – 2:30 PM
Join us for a 2-part workshop conducted by Marion Weiss as she discusses how loved ones can cope with dementia.
Does this sound familiar? You are a caregiver for a loved one with dementia. But you can’t seem to get through. How can you use words that your loved one will understand? How can you talk to the doctor who doesn’t respond with clarity and empathy? How can you convey difficult concerns/issues to family members?
Role playing/discussions will help provide general answers; attention will be given to individual circumstances.
Attendees should make an effort to attend both parts of the workshop.
