On Wednesday, August 12, at 3 p.m. in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment on August 26, the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons, Shelter Island and North Fork is presenting a Zoom program through the East Hampton (the host) and Westhampton libraries, featuring historian Antonia Petrash, creator of a PowerPoint titled “To Win the Vote: A Lifetime of Struggle” about the long and dramatic path to woman’s suffrage in 1920. Ms Petrash, who has spoken at libraries and historical societies throughout Long Island, is the author of the book “Long Island and the Woman Suffrage Movement” and is the retired director of the Glen Cove Public Library. At program’s end, to show how far women have come in the past century, the League will acknowledge the current women elected officials in the Towns/villages of East Hampton and the villages of Southampton.
